PR&P Week 4: Persimmon in the Sun

You might want to call this color red, but that would be a grave mistake. It's much more fun to say persimmon!

This week, I wanted to make a look that was pure summer. Really fun, but totally wearable for playing and sunning. It's not easy to make a 4-piece outfit all in one color (three with the same print) and still look sophisticated and put together. The little sunsuit is a  simple top and bloomers with ties. The fabric is Amy Butler's Souvenir in ivory. It's from the Lark collection, which is my very favorite collection of hers yet, and is in stock at Sewn Studio. It's all lined in Moda Bella bleached white, also from Sewn.

The cardigan is made from a bamboo jersey knit that happened to be the perfect shade and is also SOOOOO soft and comfy. But it was also by far the trickiest knit I have ever sewn with... and I've sewn a fair amount. Twin needles came in handy, and so did Fusi-knit. (Have I mentioned we have a great interfacing selection at Sewn?) It's stretchy fusible interfacing and it's so helpful for things like pockets and neckbands and plackets. I also added a little lace inset on the back yoke, which looks really sweet from behind. I love how the fit is big and slouchy over the cute little sunsuit. It also features more buttons from mom's vintage collection.

The hat is a modified version of the Oliver & S bucket hat from Little Things to Sew. I made the brim about 3" wider and interfaced it with several layers of Pellon Shapeflex from Sewn to give it the perfect floppy sun hat shape.

Thanks SO much to Julie and Nathan for the great pictures!

  12. yay! it makes me happy! I love the color. Bloomers are one of my favorites on kids, and yours are so cute. Bamboo knit is really luxurious. I got some at Bolt when I was in Portland, and love how it feels. Definitely not the easiest to work with though, and it unravels more than cotton knit would. You did awesome yet again!

I just realized that I have the same blog background as you. lol.

  14. It's adorable. All of it. Can't say what my favorite part is because I love it all! Looks so comfy and I'd dress Em in every piece in a second. Definitely going to widen the LTTS bucket hat brim for her this summer after seeing this!
