The vintage-flair photog studio.

So remember over a month ago when I told you I was going to show you more pictures of Fyrefly's new studio? Well, I planned on it. But then, this toddler I know and love pulled over my morning coffee onto my husband's beautiful, less than a year old, 17 inch Macbook Pro. Thank goodness he did not get it on himself, but it flowed directly into the side of the computer with the power jack and all the other plug-ins. The screen went black immediately. Not a good sign. (Speaking of s**t my kid ruined, have you seen this yet? Funny.) Of course, it was totally my fault for having the computer, the cup of coffee, and the toddler all even remotely near each other. $1400 dollars (gulp) into our savings later, it is fixed. At least we have some savings thanks to Davie R, but this is not a financial blog. :) Still a painful experience though.

Luckily, all the memory on the computer was recovered, thus I can show you these pictures now, if you still even remotely care at all.


All the styling was done by the talented Gina of Kiwi Street Studios, who (whom?) Fyrefly is sharing the studio with.

Isn't that the cutest little sitting area in the first picture? And I know everyone talks a big game about loving vintage typewriters, but I don't think I know someone else who actually has one. And I know you will ask, so that pennant light thingy is from Ikea.

I also thought this was a very clever way to display photos or art on the wall. I don't know if these are true vintage drawer pulls or anthropologie imitations. Either way, they look great.

A Good Weekend

Friday night was very exciting because Fyrefly Photography opened up their new studio! It looks absolutely beautiful. Lots of friends came out to say hi and have a drink and celebrate how far the business has come in just a little over a year. We think of Nathan and Edie and their kids like family, and now Nick is second shooting weddings most every weekend with Nathan. Also, I do some blogging/ childcare/ bag-making for him. So we feel like it's the family biz. It was a fun night.

Here is a little peek of the space. I think I'll have to show you more of it later this week, because it is full of great vintage styling you will love. Too bad I'm not a photographer myself, but you'll get the idea.

That night was a monthly event here in our neighborhood called "Oakley Afterhours," where all the businesses on the square stay open late and have special things going on. So Nick played some tunes for Red Tree Gallery and Coffee Shop, just around the corner from the new studio. Yeah, he's pretty good.

And my monsters also made their debut at Red Tree that day! Besides the really good art they have on the wall each month, they also sell lots of very cool handmade goods from local artists. I'm excited to have them for sale "in the flesh."

And lastly, my friend Kara just informed me that one of the monsters was included in an Etsy Finds collection on their blog and daily email. WHAT? The crazy thing is, my other friend Olivia from Palette Theory has an item in the same collection! I think she is the only other person I know with an etsy shop. There are only like a gazillion different items on etsy- what are the odds of that?? See it here. (Scroll down to the bottom.)

Yellow & Black Birthday Party

We all had so much fun at Hendrix's first birthday! I'll let the pictures do the talking...

Some credits:

- I first got my inspiration for a yellow party here, which I found at Ohdeedoh.

- I got all the cupcake toppers from this free download at A Beautiful Mess. I just changed the colors and   added the phrases in photoshop.

- All of the other signs I made from these, again I used photoshop to change them.

- My wonderful husband made everything for that delicious taco bar, which included choice of carnitas, ground beef, and shredded chicken. Oh yeah, AND 3 kinds of homemade salsa! 

- My beautiful mom made all those cupcakes- everyone thought I had bought them from a bakery!

- I had a "Candy Bar" full of yellow candies people could eat and kids could add to their goodie bags. I'm pretty sure this is not my original idea, but I don't remember where I've seen it before- probably several places.

- There isn't a picture of this, but I used Prudent Baby's idea for a kid's craft station. I just bought some cardboard cut-out animal shapes from Michael's ($2 for 12) and laid out crayons and stickers I already had. Really cheap and easy, and the kids loved it.
